Free Activities #1:Jigsaw Puzzles

Image
I'm a big advocate for finding free hobbies that consume your mind for a few hours. Personally I have always loved completing jigsaw puzzles. I love sorting out the pieces into colours and the element of  problem solving is very satisfying, and clicking that final piece into place is cathartic to say the least.  So how can you get jigsaws for free (or very cheap?)  Yes, jigsaws are extremely expensive when you buy them new, so don't do that! You can pick up jigsaws for £1 from the right charity shops (not all are that cheap and some charity shops over-price them, but they can be found). I've only had one puzzle from a charity shop which had pieces missing (I'll never forgive or forget) but the pieces were loose in the box so I should have known better. If my experience is anything to go by, I'd suggest only buying puzzles when the jigsaw is sealed in a bag. Also get the word out there. Once people know you like puzzles you'll be inundated with stacks of them. I

Vegan Recipe: Frugal Oat-so-Simple inspired Porridge

Image
I used to love the simplicity that Oat-so-Simple porridge sachets offered. For years I bought these expensive portions of oats in favour of traditional rolled oats for the simple reason that the Oat-so-Simple oats made a soft, creamy porridge, whereas the cheaper oats stayed hard and turned out claggy. Little did I know that the secret to creamy rolled oats was not only easy, but also very cheap to re-create. The breakfast porridge I made this morning used blueberries and Gingerbread Skinny syrup. I only buy blueberries when I get them on a yellow sticker deal, and these blueberries cost me just 5p for the punnet from my local greengrocers. The Skinny syrup I bought on offer with a discount code. If you check out The Skinny Food Company (or subscribe to their newsletter) they seem to have deals all the time. This syrup, along with most of their syrups, are vegan. They are so low in calories that I don’t even count them when I’m tracking my calories. They work out 4 calories per 100ml a

Introduction: Who am I and What is this Blog all about?

Hello. If I was to describe myself in 3 words I would go with  1. Frugal 2. Vegan 3. Proactive There are broader reasons why I would choose these words, and two go far back into my childhood, (but we’re not going that deep just yet). I’ve been told I have an interesting story to tell, I often hear ‘you should write a book, you are so wise, I’ve never met anyone like you’. To be honest I never know whether to take that as a complement or not! But never-the-less, here it is. I hope you’ll find this blog to be a mix of diary entries, thoughts, observations and recipes. But above all, I hope it will in some way help my future fellow frugal friends, plant based advocates or at the very least provide a bit of interest for the curious. All the best and speak soon, Becky xx
